Use this tool to determine the identity and legal status documentation you need to get your UTORid and/or TCard. What you need will depend on who you are, where you are and whether this is your first UTORid and TCard.

The required legal and/or identity documentation will vary depending on your role at the University of Toronto.
If you are new to U of T, choose FIRST UTORid/TCard.
Choose REPLACEMENT if:
For students at U of T Schools, the School of Continuing Studies, or pursuing post-graduate, postdoctoral or professional studies.
For staff connected to U of T through related organizations, including the Faculty Club, federated colleges, continuing or postdoctoral studies, seminaries or labs.
As a staff with a U of T connection, you will need to present ONE of the following original and unexpired government issued identification documents to validate your identity, in order to receive your new or replacement TCard.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will need to present ONE of the following original and unexpired government issued identification documents to validate your identity, in order to receive your new or replacement TCard.
As a long-term guest who falls into one of the categories below and does not appear in the University of Toronto Human Resources Information System (HRIS), the department you are working for should apply for a Long-Term Guest UTORid.
Short-term visitors are not eligible for a TCard.
Short-term guests who require a UTORid for a period of 5 days or less can be sponsored by a University of Toronto staff or faculty member for a Short-Term Guest UTORid.
As a School of Continuing Studies student, you will need to present ONE of the following original and unexpired government issued identification documents to validate your identity, in order to receive your new or replacement TCard.

As a Post Graduate Medical Education (PGME) clinical fellow who requires physical access to a U of T library, bring ONE of the following original and unexpired documents to pick up your TCard :

To activate your UTORid, you will require a Secret Activation Key (SAK). This can be found at the top of your POWER registration record.
As a U of T faculty, librarian or staff, you will need to present ONE of the following original and unexpired government issued identification documents to validate your identity, in order to receive your new or replacement TCard.

Your status as a student is your PRIMARY role as it relates to your TCard. The documentation you need to bring to pick up your TCard depends on whether you are a NEW OR RETURNING student.
As your appearance has notably changed, you will need to present ONE of the following documents to pick up your TCard. NOTE: A change of hair colour, haircut or facial hair is not considered a notable change that requires an updated TCard photo.
Since your name has changed, you will need to present ONE of the original and unexpired following documents to pick up your TCard:

Since you are replacing your TCard within 2 years of receiving your previous TCard, you will need to present ONE of the following original and unexpired documents at your TCard appointment:

As a new undergraduate or graduate student, TCard Services will need to verify your legal status.
We can also accept a temporary Canadian Passport (white cover rather than blue).

REMINDERS:
We CANNOT accept a Notice of Birth Registration card. This is a small laminated card that says it is not a birth certificate on the card itself.
We CANNOT accept a Certificate of Live Birth. This is a long form, handwritten document that is not a Canadian Birth Certificate.

NOTE: Commemorative certificates are not proof of Canadian citizenship.

As an international student, to get your UTORid, you need to provide an original and unexpired passport.
While a Study Permit is not required to get your UTORid, it is required, along with an unexpired passport or Canadian Government photo ID to verify your legal status to pick up your TCard.
As an international student, you need to bring BOTH original and unexpired documents to receive your UTORID/TCard:
As an international student studying in Canada for 6 months or less, bring your original and unexpired PASSPORT to pick up your TCard.
As a Protected Person or Convention Refugee, bring ALL the following original and unexpired documents to pick up your TCard:
As a Diplomat, Dependent of Diplomats or Staff of Diplomats, bring ALL the following original and unexpired documents to pick up your TCard:
As a Member of Foreign Military Group, bring ALL the following original and unexpired documents to pick up your TCard:
